Q: Time capsule does not allow me to get onto the internet without a ethernet cable.

I am tryimg to get my TC to work via WiFi. Airport utility show green lights where it should. WiFi network all works, but I cannot get onto the internet if my MacBook Pro is not connected via ethernet, which defies Wifi....Please help!

    You need to spell out the whole network.

     

    We need to know.. what you currently have for modem.. make and model can help.

     

    Most important.. is it router.. is it wireless.

     

    How is the TC connected to main modem/router?

     

    It should be plugged in by ethernet. And in bridge if the modem is a router.. In router if the modem is pure bridge.

     

    Then tell us how wireless is setup.

     

    My advice is to setup the TC in total isolation, using ethernet.

     

    Make sure you know exactly what the wireless setting you give it are..

     

    Then plug the TC into the main modem by ethernet. And use wireless on the MBP to access it.. if the wireless doesn't list in the airport networks.. start over and do a full factory reset of the TC.

     

    Give also how old is the TC and what model from the base.. A1xxx and firmware revision.
