If the last backup was ages ago, and assuming that this is your syncing library - I am guessing that you have purchases on the iPad that haven't been transferred into iTunes. Maybe that will help.
If you could be more specific, it would be easier to offer help.
Is the iPad being recognized by iTunes?
iPad not appearing in iTunes
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
IOS: Syncing with iTunes
Apple - Support - iPad - Syncing
Yes, sorry.... it was a bit brief.
The iPad is about two months old. As previoulsy asked, I am using the latest version of iTunes.
When I connect the iPad, it starts to back up what is already on the pad - films, photos, apps etc. It gets to stage 2 of the back up and just stops. If I unconnect it and reconnect it, it just does the same time and again. The only thing that cures it is a full restore from the last back up that was at the begining of April, but then when I try to back it up after that restore, it stops again at stage 2.
I have tried a different USB port and this makes no difference.
The ony way I can get it to update apps, add new films or photos is to restore it every time.... to be honest it's all getting a bit tedious.
Any help would be great as I struggle to get to my local Apple Store.
