I have a macbook pro. When I open Pages, it won't let me save or type. I can open documents but I can't type or save.

Not being able to type, or save what you couldn't type is a pretty serious problem for a Word Processor! Could you tell us more about your operating system and version of Pages, and how and when you purchased Pages?
Jerry
Sounds like your demo Pages has reached the end of its 30 days trial period and has become a Read Only version.
Did you ever buy it?
Peter
How do I tell what kind of version I have? I'm sorry, I'm completely tech illiterate. The program has run successfully for almost three years, I don't think its trial period has ended. I bought this computer in '09 and its a macbook pro, I bought Pages at the same time. That's the extent of my knowledge.
Menu > Pages > About Pages
What have you done lately? Upgraded the system or reinstalled?
You can't just drag Pages over to a new Mac or a new installation, it needs to be installed again from the installer, with the serial number.
Peter
it won't let me click on any of the buttons at the top of the screen where it says "Pages." It doesn't even recognize when I've clicked on the Pages button. It just says, "Finder."
When you are in Pages with your document open, Go up to the menubar at the top of the screen.
Immediately on the left is the Apple logo, that is the System menu.
Next to that, second from the left is the Pages menu, click on that and the first option is About Pages.
Peter
No, it seriously won't recognize that I'm in Pages. I click on the Pages icon, I attempt to click on the document, but it's as if I'm still in Finder. I can't click on the documents or menu bars. It won't even let me see the document. I seriously have never encountered this before.
So you are saying Pages has frozen?
Have you Force Quit it and restarted?
Peter
When I hold down on the icon and press quit, it asks me to save a document. I just can't save the document. If it is frozen, it doesn't recognize it. It just says "Quit." Everything else on the computer works fine. It's just Pages.
Sometimes there is a dialog open somewhere which is waiting for you to click on a button, and is probably under something else.
If your screen is cluttered with other windows, close them or minimise them by clicking on the yellow button in the top left corner. or move them out of the way.
When you find the dialog box, dismiss it or respond to whatever it is asking and then you should be able to get on with using the document.
My guess is you have a printing dialog box open.
Peter
I don't understand what you're saying. When I minimize all windows and cancel all open applications, it still won't let me open Pages. What is a dialog box?
Main question is: Have you bought iWork or not? If you haven't bought iwork you have a trial version and it stop working in some aspects after 30 days of use. So when and how did you aquire iWork/Pages?
