Red eye -> Blue eye?

Yes, you can change the intensity of the redeye reduction (and the enhnacement tool also).

How to Change the Size and Intensity of the Retouch and Red-Eye Removal Tools

• Type Caps lockControl9
• Undo caps lock
• Click on the Retouch or Red-Eye Removal tool
• The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross ➕ or a circle
• The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.

NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the tool imparts on each pass.

I'm able to change the size of both the red-eye tool as well as the retouch tool. However, I am only able to change the intensity of the retouch tool; I can't seem to change the intensity of the red-eye tool. the { and } keys don't seem to do anything for the re-eye tool. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

You're right. I was sure that the intensity function was in the redeye tool as well. Haven't used it in a while. My error.

The 'redeye' tool should change only the pupil of the eye, not the iris wherein is the color. If you enlarge the photo you will be able to see exactly what changes. The 'red' color is due to the vascularization of the retina, and reflects that red color back in certain lights, such as the flash of a camera, or with an ophthalmoscope of an ophthalmologist when examing eyes.

Many of my family members have blue, green, gray as well as dark brown eyes, and the only 'red' parts are the pupils. When corrected to the usual black, the color of the eye from the iris is still visible.

My problem is not the same, but red eye is always greyed out so that I cannot follow the 'help' instructions to use it. Would appreciate any advice. Mort Leonard

Try trashing iPhoto's plist while iPhoto is closed. Users->Yourusername->Library->Preferences->com.apple.iphoto.plist. See if that might help out. iPhoto will create a new one when you relaunch it.

Thanks Bev, I did that and then received a notice that I had to update and that it may take a few minutes. After waiting over 10 minutes I quit iPhotos because the wheel was just spinning with no result. I am now unable to open iPhotos. Any suggestions? Mort.

Thanks Beverly. I had to look up iris and pupil but now it makes perfect sense. This is a good tip on how/where to fix red-eye. Basically, the red-eye circle tool should be adjusted to be the same size as the dark center portion of the eye (pupil). This is the smallest part and does not include the outer colored portion of the eye (iris). Obviously the white part (retina?) should also be excluded from the red-eye fix.

Yes, you are correct about just fixing the redeye on on the pupil. That is where the 'red' part is, reflecting light from the blood-rich retina (sensory layer back of the eye). The white part is the sclera(e).

I learned this "back door" for adjusting the red eye tool today in an iPhoto class at the Apple store.

My question is? WHERE IS THIS IN ANY DOCUMENTATION???

Can you clarify how to use the { } keys to change intensity. I can change from a cross to a circle and change the size of the circle but I can't seem to get the intensity to change using { }. Should something come up next to the pointer (like in retouch when you change the intensity)?

The intensity change is for the retouch, not redeye removal.
