update failed

I've been having so many troubles with my new MacBook Pro this week. I keep getting an error that it cannot connect to the App Store, then that it can't verify a secure connection to the App Store, then now I tried to perform a software update and it hung up and said that it failed. If I wanted this kind of computer performance I would have kept my PC!!


I'm guessing issues could be fixed by downloading the update, but I can't seem to do that successfully.


Any ideas before I chuck this out the window?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
