April 22, just installed the latest update to fix the Java problem, it does not work.

About a week ago I installed a MAC update. I discovered that I was unable to play POGO games. I know that is not up there with all other uses of MAC... let's get back on track here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and reset preferences at least 6 times to get JAVA back.

Java for OS X 2013-003 get applet from Oracle

My Intel MAC circa 2009, is running MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5 Safari 6.0.4

Today I received another update from Apple stating it would provide the answer to POGO 6 and you can select certain sites that can be accessed.

This also was a FAIL!

I now know the steps, can access TERMINAL without shaking, have learned to use GO to access UTILITIES. I still end up with JAVA not recognizing that their software has a place in my heart and I truly hope on my computer soon.

I have been playing a horrible game of Solitaire on another site.

Are there others out there with this problem or is it just me? Can anyone suggest anything else?

Thank you BDAua. This is what I typed and the reply from Terminal

java -version

java version "1.6.0_45"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_45-b06-451-11M4406)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.45-b01-451, mixed mode)

BTW - this application does NOT show up in the Applications folder and I consider that a bit odd.

I also tried typing Java for my computer to search for and this is what I got under

Overview:

PID: 944

Host: localhost

Main class: <unknown>

Arguments: <none>

JVM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (20.45-b01-451, mixed mode)

Java: version 1.6.0_45, vendor Apple Inc.

Java Home: /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home

JVM Flags: <none>

Heap dump on OOME: enabled

I hope something is helpful within all of this info!

This indicates that you have the latest Java SE 6 version installed. To see which Java SE 7 version's installed, run this in the Terminal app:

sudo /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version

Do note that you'll have to carefully enter your admin password at the Password; prompt, since nothing's displayed in the window, and hit the return key. If you have the latest, then you should get this:

java version "1.7.0_21"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_21-b12)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.21-b01, mixed mode)

baltwo,

This time I struck out. I navigated to Terminal and copied the line that you gave me, however, when I tried to input my password (which I have done 3 - 4 times in the last couple of weeks, I cannot enter anything).

Here is the last encounter:

{my name} (little black box)

sudo /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version

Password:

Sorry, try again. (little black box)

Password:

sudo: 1 incorrect password attempt

{my name} ~ {name}$ (little black box)

I have tried typing where the little black box is, and just past the box, and just pressing return. Nothing happens when I try to enter the password. I am assuming this is the password for the adminstrator of the computer and not my Apple password. Actually at this point it wouldn't matter. I haven't been able to type anything in the space.

For BDAqua & baltwo thank you both!

I have depressed the keys on my keyboard, but nothing gets typed and nothing has moved, when I hit the return key, the computer typed Sorry try again, the second time after I typed with nothing showing up, nothing moving, then I got the suod: 1 incorrect password attempt

Yes I did try to type the admin password and pressed the enter key.

I have been able to do this before today, but today it is not working for me.

I am really feeling ridiculous now. I replied to someone, somewhere, but it is not showing up here. I apologize if you receive 2 answers.

I did type in the admin password and pressed enter. IT WORKED! So then I received the message:

java version "1.7.0_21"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_21-b12)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.21-b01, mixed mode)

Where do I go from here?

Now that we have the info about what Java is installed, I have rebooted the computer and tried to run POGO. Java is still not being recognized by my computer. My computer is about as updated as it could be (did that yesterday before posting). What intriguing little dot or space is missing in the Apple vs Java saga?

And I do want to thank BDAqua & baltwo for getting me this far on the journey. There are times that I hate to see that there are updates available.

You have a choice of playing without paying, or you can pay to subscribe. Some of their games still work for me, but this is the link to Mahjong Gardens which is one that does not work. It is one of their most popular games. They have support pages, too, but nothing has really helped. They keep saying you need to reinstall Java.

Since you have the latest versions installed, you need to communicate with the game developers. I don't run games on my computer, so I can't help with that feature.
