Apr 22, 2013 6:57 PM in response to oli_43by Frank Caggiano,HAve you seen this About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Some Mac's support audio over mini display port some don't. Check to see if your mac does.
In additon the adapter must conform to the VESA DisplayPort Dual-Mode Standard

Apr 22, 2013 7:01 PM in response to oli_43by k.rutledge,This is a screenshot of my Sound menu within System Preferences (I have my MacBook connected to a TV. Video is carried via a Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adaptor. Audio is carried over a 3.5mm stereo audio cable.)
- Up top, select "Line In" option (or something to that effect).
- Then at the bottom, that "Output volume" slider is what controls the volume level being "outputted" to the TV.
Cheers!

I found a previous discussion thread that solve my problem:
I had the same issue today, 23 Jan 2013. In case anyone else sees this post like I did looking for an answer and has same issue here is worked for me. Under SYSTEM PREFERENCES> SOUND menu select sound effects. Play a sound effect on your computer. You should see the option to select your TV. Click it. Play a sound effect again and it should now be heard on you TV speakers. Go back to the window of the video you want to play the video... sound should now play through TV speakers.
