Yes, I know, and said that several posts ago.
Excellent. It's good to end a discussion on a note of agreement.
Silly me, but can I not "Find My iPad" (with Find my iPhone app) if I know the number? Turns out I need to right now, which is why I'm here.
No. Find My iPad does not work with nor even recognize the phone number the carrier assigns to an iPad.
Regards.
I found my iPad cell number using
Settings/cellular data/View Account/(enter password/name)/
That reveals my Cellular Data Account window (mine is AT&T). My iPad phone number is just below the words Account Overview.
I'm using the Xfinity iPad app to send and receive text messages. It also let's me do email. Doesn't matter if my iPad is connected to the internets via wifi or cell. My preferences in the Xfinity app are set to send text message via email. I texted my iPad phone number and received the text message.
If I use a regular phone to call the iPad phone number, I don't connect. But this means with the Xfinity app, I can send and receive text messages directly to my iPad (or to any other number).
Hope this makes sense.

The find my iPad service is linked to your iCloud account - has nothing at all to do with phone numbers or even device hardware ID. If you do not have your iCloud account setup on the device, with the find my iPad setting active under that account's settings, then the find my ipad service will not work for you at all.
I believe, the topic starter ran out of funds on his SIM card and wants to recharge it via ATM or his bank's web interface, but forgot his SIM's number. At least this is what has led me to this thread.
Thanks, you're the one in the thread to solve my issue
I needed the same info about how to find my number.
A couple of the posts were helpful but not all. Everyone seems to want to know why and lacks to explain how.... Part of being noisy and uninformed I guess. Don't think it really matters to all of those people.
I want to know because my small business has over 100 lines of service and I wanted to know what number so I can monitor usage and or change preferences on my data plan with my carrier.
When you have that large bill, it's itemized by number and name - and if not a unique name, they just filling the account name... Hence, it looks like anyone's number and very hard to track if it's a data card number or a voice number.
So it is really useful to know the number for your iPad.
VIrginia272, did you get a straight answer? The answer is, go to Settings, General, About and look for Cellular Data Number.

My carrier uses an account ID, not a phone number, to identify my iPad's account, but other carriers may differ.
Regards.
Other carriers DO differ. For Orange & T-Mobile in the UK, your phone number is your login name to the website where you manage your account.
Thanks OlgaJ for giving the answer instead of telling people they don't need it, or it wont do any good, or any of the other pretensions nonsense some of these other posters posted.
in Australia, with telstra, you go to a website using the iPad. it's m.telstra.com and you have to turn wifi off before you do it. it only works for pre-paid, data plans have the number listed on the bill from the carrier. contact your carrier, there should be a similar way for each carrier.
TThe easiest and fastest way to find the phone number assigned to your iPad is to go to your billng account....it's listed there.
Thanks very much for answering the question rather than lecturing people about your vast knowledge. What is it with Apple users, anyway?
