Where did you hear that your iPad has a phone number? Check out the information on Facetime here (if that is what you are referring to):
Cell carriers do assign a phone number to 3G iPads, but knowing that number won't do you any good since it's not usable by the user in any way. It's strictly a way the cell carriers keep track of devices set up in their systems. The phone number is not printed on the SIM in any case, at least not with any carrier I'm familiar with.
For what purpose do you think you need to know the phone number? If you tell us what you're trying to do, we can perhaps offer suggestions.
Regards.
There definitely is a phone number associated with cellular access. Unless it was printed on the SIM card carrier, there is no easy way to find out what it is. The number is useless to anyone anyway, because if anyone calls the number, there is no way for you to answer the call. The caller just gets a constant ring tone - until they get bored and hang up!

Yes, thanks, I know, and already said that. Perhaps you meant to reply to the original poster?
Possibly. But just adding some extra info to your post. Incidentally, my phone number is actually on my bill.
Maybe, but mine shows as "Unknown", so it may not work with every carrier.
Thanks for that clarification - I wasn't sure, but figured there had to be some sort of number so it would work with Facetime? But, obviously, it's not what one would consider a "regular" phone number - cellular or not.
No, the iPad's phone number won't work with Facetime or any other service. There's really no use for it from the user's standpoint; it's just for the carrier's purposes.
Regards.
It's useful only if you want to talk to someone at your carrier's or if you want to log online into the account to make changes via the web.
Ahh, thanks again - learned something new (again)!

My carrier uses an account ID, not a phone number, to identify my iPad's account, but other carriers may differ.
Regards.
I ask only because we got cell phones for the first time this past weekend, yes believe it or not, and the guy said our bill would show the cell phone number and a number for the iPad. He was not very helpful and explained very little so we were just trying to understand what he meant.
Glad your issue got sorted and I learned something as well!
Your carrier may well use an account number for all administrative purposes, but the fact remains that your SIM card has a cellular number allocated to it, even if you cannot actually determine what it is.
