Can't Edit Song Info(greyed out)

Ok I know a simple solution to the issue I have stated above. The whole right click, show in windows explorer and uncheck the "read only," and it will then enable me to change the song info. However I am growing aggitated with having to manually do this upon each download. It only appears to do this with a torrent folder file. I want to know how to change a setting in which read only will NEVER be checked again. It was never being checked before 2 days ago. Now however, every song or folder downloaded automatically checks as read only. Please don't give any feedback that states what I've already attempted.

Well it it is hard for us to know everything you've already attempted. 😉

I'll assume these are files that the copyright holder has chosen to share via torrent, but if not stick to legitimate sources if you want to discuss the problems with them here.

Read-only status comes with the file along with the creation date, files size etc. For example if you copy data files from a CD/DVD they will copy in complete with read-only flag set because they are read-only on the source.

You should also check that your iTunes folder (or media folder if located separately) has the correct permissions. Right-click on the folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but later versions of Windows shouldn't be too different.

User uploaded file

You can clear the Read-Only flag for the entire library from the same dialog.

Track info greyed out in iTunes after clicking Get Info? Here's what you do!!!

Open the file location of the track that's greyed out...

Right click on the file and then click on Properties...

Now click the Security tab at the top and then click Edit...

Now click on Users (which usually has the name of your computer next to it) which will highlight it...

Then directly under Allow, click-check the box for Full Control...

Then simply click Apply and OK, then click OK to close the remaining window!

Now when you go back to that particular track in iTunes, you will be able to click Get Info and change it's track information and add add artwork!

Only bummer is... is that if you have a bunch of greyed out tracks, you'll have to repeat this process for each individual track that's greyed out. It's a tedious process but it works!

Hope this helps!!!

ok I keep reading a bunch of ways to fix this and nothing worked BUT I finally figured it out on my own and here is how to do it

1. right click on the folder that holds your music and click on Properties

2. click on the Security tab

3. click on User (Example) - (Users (Mike-Dell\Users)

4. Click Edit

5. Under Groups or User Names: Click on the User (same example as #3)

6. you will see a box that says Allow/Deny Check Allow on full control and than click apply than ok

7. Should work and you will be done
