Q: Can send but not receive gmail

Since a few days I am unable to receive gmail using the Mail client on my MacBook Pro. The wheel just keeps spinning. There is no error message.

The setup is correct (I compared with another MacBook Pro in my household), the password is correct.

I can send email just fine, just not receive.

I am running 10.7.5.

Thanks for your help!

"Mail" is a time bomb if you use a G-mail account. The only thing that's working "for now" ia deleating the Gmail account EVERY DAY. It works for a little while after that. I' know... this is not a fix, but it's the only thing that's working for me (for now).

I too had the same problem:

I could not receive gmail only send to gmail in the Mail app on my Mac. Because I had 2-step verification turned on in gmail (i.e. a code sent to phone, was turned on) so it would not login.  I turned this off in gmail and then my incoming mail streamed in.

For me though I will not use the Mail app on my Mac, I am more Google centric. I just needed to do this to be able to click on a link in an email a friend sent me to be able to view his iCloud photos, I could not click on the link in gmail I HAD to do it in Mail app (per the error message)...   Now I did that and I will abandon Mail and turn back on my 2-step verification in gmail.
