installing ram into my macbook pro

so i was wondering if i have the ability to upgrad my current ram from 4GB to 16GB (2x gb ram cards) i know certain models of the mac book pro simply wont function when upgraded, or atleast thats what ive seen personally. I know i could install it myself with no problem i just dont know where to get a good set of 8GB cards from or if they will even work on my computer. Thanks for thehelp and patience, i recently switched from windows (hated it) to OSX Lion and mac so im still learning this stuff lol

Go here http://macsales.com/ and follow the links on ram for your model and they'll tell you what the most ram your mac can handle and they usually have quality items at the best prices.

You have a Late 2011 MacBook Pro, which officially supports 8 GB of RAM, but you can install 16 GB of RAM. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1270#link3

I recommend you to buy the RAM in OWC or Crucial, so you will be sure you buy the correct RAM for your computer > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM

im just reading all the reviews for the macbook pro 2011's and they are saying that when the computer was above its temp it experienced kernel pops, data crashes and corruption, im just not sure if its very safe. I spent a looooot of cash on this im just super scared ill crash it or render it completely useless if i get the wrong ram cards...

As long as the RAM you install are Apple Certified/Tested then you're fine.

I have a late 2011 with Crucial 16GB Mac RAM and a early 2011 with Patriot 16GB Mac Series ( $90 ) and have had no issues.

Just don't buy the cheaper generic 1333MHz non Certified Apple RAM to avoid installation issues.

You won't go wrong if you stick with Crucial, Corsair, G.Skill, Mushkin, Hynix - just make sure they're all Apple Certified.
