Yeah !! Even i'm facing the same problem ! I was giving my exam and in the middle it crashed all of a sudden !! This is happening sice the update and also this update s****
Download Onyx and clean up Safari and see if that works.
OS X and Safari versions?
Happening to me too. Started last week. I've tried resetting Safari, removing preferences and extensions to no avail. Firefox and Chrome are working perfectly.
I'm on OS X 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4.
Download Onyx and clean up Safari and see if that works.
Tried Onyx but still the same. Previously I also tried repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility.
The problem happened very suddenly. The night before I was using it without issues. I then left it overnight with the Mac running and the next morning Safari was unusable. No error messages in the console logs.
I'm having exactly the same problem as described by the OP.
Over on this thread here, Linc has suggested some useful diagnostic tests which identified a useful step for me.
This problem is only happening in my own user account. Other accounts (notably the guest account) are working normally. This might suggest it is an application conflict or something to do with other preferences or config set-up. I've asked Linc a question over there that might help progress it.
If anybody else has already found a solution would you mind please posting it?
Many thanks.
I've tried logging in using the Guest account and still see the problem. Haven't tried booting in safe mode yet.
Exactly !! I too left my mac in sleep mode leaving safari open, then the problem started. Then I started Chrome and am using it until now.
James,
I was having exactly the same problem as you and subsequently discovered the cause in my case and a permanent fix.
Safari was crashing if I opened it when I already had another browser open that was using webkit; namely Chrome. If I had Chrome open and then tried to run Safari, this would create the exact problem you describe.
I originally fixed it by following a fix posted by Yuengdog1983 over here. This was also affecting another app I was using that was calling browser functions via Webkit (Text Wrangler).
After experimenting with a system util app for an entirely different purpose (Onyx; it's mentioned by pjdube above and is for general tuning and customisation options) I discovered that my system disk had a [minor] error and needed to be repaired. The count for one of the catalog files was out by '1' !
I followed the instructions here (basically; boot into single-user mode, run a version of the Apple disk utility to fix the error, then re-boot) and voila that was it; I re-tested and could run all the webkit apps that I wanted - at the same time!
Posting here incase this fix works for anybody else.
Hope it helps.
I tried Yuengdog1983's fix but was unable to get it to work because Software Updates didn't show me any updates. I eventually reinstalled Mountain Lion and got Safari working.
Glad you got it working.
Just on the updates point, I had the same issue. However, after you've moved webkit to the trash and then opened the Software updates page, you have to select 'Store' then 'Reload Page' from the menu bar. This then triggers a refresh and it finds an update for Safari.
Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind if this happens again.
A quick update. The "reinstall Mountain Lion" fix lasted just a few days before it choked again yesterday. This time I tried YuengDog1983's fix along with Vidal S's tip and got Safari working again. Guess I should plan a disk check soon.
I am stuck in an endless loop when Safari opens the website continues to try to load even after quitting Safari. The site is: http://mysite.cherokee.k12.ga.us/personal/teresa_bailey/site/pages/Robotics.aspx error that appears is and this same error occurs using Chrome as well. The dialog box says Selected Images View requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater for Windows. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
