my iphone 5 fell into the toilet and is now sitting in a bowl of rice. after two hours i noticed the screen is a solid red pink color. what does that mean?

Is this an illusion or is the screen showing this color? Either way, I imagine it has to be repaired or replaced because that is not normal.

Well keep it in the rice for a few days and try again. I would recommend the rest of the week.

Make sure it's turned off and leave it in the rice for 5-7 days.

I did the same thing:) left my phone in rice bowl for a week and it's dead now. When i took the phone to a service they said putting the phone in rice is the last thing to do. My phone was molded and they couldn't repair it. I think you have to take your phone to the service asap.

You don't just drop a wet iPhone into a bowl of rice, no. You should always wrap it in paper towel or something similar to avoid direct contact with the rice since the rice will, obviously, get wet. A bag of silica pellets is better, and some companies sell such bags specifically for such purposes, but few people have them on hand and so have to resort to the rice.

I like Varjak's response. If it is still in the rice, re-wrap it as directed and put it back in. Water can cause a lot of damage real quick though so best of luck!!!
