Is there any way to play older Mac games on a newer mac without downloading anything? And if not...

What do I need to download, where can I download it and will it damage my computer in anyway? I'm trying to play mac compatible games from 1998 and 1996. I don't have any of the disks that came with my mac (if there were any) so if I could do it without those that'd be great. But I could get them if I needed them. I'm not new to mac but I am totally new to this problem, so excuse my lack of knowledge on teh subject. Thanks!

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Here is a post I recently assembled for another similar question:

With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.

A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included (google the term "Classic-On-Intel v 4.0.1 chubby bunny").
