May 17, 2013 12:43 PM in response to eislikewhoaby dredcomm,Final Cut Pro 3 was only compatible with systems running PowerPC processors. If you have a MacBook Pro, you'll need to get a newer version that's compatible with your hardware and operating system.

What is the Model Identifier of your MacBook Pro? Apple Menu to About this Mac to More Info to System Report to Hardware Overview...
How much RAM does it have?

I'm not sure how much RAM but I think it's 512mb. I'm sure there is someway to get this to work on my computer...

May 21, 2013 12:14 AM in response to eislikewhoaby MlchaelLAX,I forgot to ask which version of OS X are you running now?
I think that FCP3 is just too old to run even on your MacBook. The program was released in the days of OS X 10.2.x and your MB came with OS X Leopard 10.5.x.
It is not clear if it would run on that late of OS X.
How much time and money are you willing to invest in attempting to make it work? I would suggest that it may be better for you to find a more modern version that you can afford that will work in Leopard or Snow Leopard for sure!

May 21, 2013 7:46 AM in response to MlchaelLAXby eislikewhoa,Mac OS X 10.6.8 well thats annoying. I get that its an old program but you think it would still work. I really can't afford the hefty amount they are asking for a newer version of FCP (even for used FCP 4 they are askin $600+) and I really don't like using any other editing software. So theres absolutely nothing I can do?

May 21, 2013 8:17 AM in response to eislikewhoaby MlchaelLAX,As an experiment I once got OS X Tiger 10.4 to install into VMWare Fusion v2 and work properly. Fusion 2 will work in Snow Leopard (32 bit).
I just recently bought a copy of Fusion 2 on eBay for $12 including shipping (but the seller's wife went into early labor and the shipment is delayed) so I could work with it on another computer.
I could try to see if FCP3 would work in Tiger in a virtualized environment. Email me at MichaelLAX at AOL...

May 21, 2013 8:46 AM in response to eislikewhoaby MlchaelLAX,Or maybe FCP3 would work also in Leopord, which you can install into a 2nd partition on your HD and "dual-boot" into Leopard when you want to work with FCP3.
I'll wait to hear from you, if you want me to see which options might work for you.

May 21, 2013 9:04 AM in response to eislikewhoaby dredcomm,If you can't afford a compatible version of Final Cut Pro, you might get what you need from a compatible version of Final Cut Express (probably version 4). But always be sure to check system requirement before purchasing software.
Also keep in mind that even if you somehow get FCP3 running despite processor and graphics chip incompatibilies, it's over 10 years old and isn't compatible with most modern video codecs and formats.
Perhaps if you let us know what camera or format you plan on working in, we can make a better recommendation.

May 21, 2013 11:34 AM in response to dredcommby eislikewhoa,I produce independent films... I wouldn't be using it to edit a full feature length film, however I would be using footage to do small things like behind-the-scenes, teaser trailers, misc footage compliation, etc. Nothing more then posting it to Vimeo or the films website. The films I've worked on have been shot of Reds or Canon EOS 7D not sure what our future ones are going to be shot on. If I can't get it to work I can't, but it would be awesome since I really don't want to be limited to something like iMovie.
