Pinwheel every few seconds

Earlier this week I began to get the pinwheel every now and then. As the week progressed, it has become more frequent. It is to the point that every few seconds I try to type or move applications or anything it will pinwheel for about 30 seconds then in a few seconds do it again. I have closed every application fully and restarted my MacBook numerous times. What do I do to get rid of this problem?
