I have a frozen iPad screen showing the Apple Icon and pending wheel.

My iPad screen is frozen with the Apple Icon and the pending wheel visable but motionless.

I tried charging it but it will not charge. I tried connecting it with itunes so I could sync it but it won't.

I was able to download my photos into my PC so I know the PC usb port, apple the cable and ipad ports are all working and that the software from the ipad can communicate with my PC software but I am stuck on everything else.

What is the problem and what do I do?

iPad, I do not know my operating system

1. Try doing a hard reset:

Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.

2. If that doesn't solve the issue, backup the device and restore it as new.

In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137

NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.

If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions

If you're not able to restore the device the normal way, you should use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Using that last article will erase everything on the device, so make sure you have a backup!

Good luck 🙂

Thanks! I have followed these instructions and this is what happens:

I click to Sync the device using iTunes

Top right hand corner of my PC screens show an ipad button with a spinning wheel.

I click on this button expecting to be taken to the Sync Screen (as per normal and as per the Apple instruction video) but nothing happens.

It seems like the process is just frozen as it just stays that way for about 10 minutes and then my iPad battery energy dies and the process stops.

I again attempt to recharge my iPad for up to 6 hours but the ipad is not charging sufficiently (only one really thin red line on my battery image on the iPad Screen).

I have researched that ipads should be charging via a 10w charger not a 5w charger.

I have had this device for a while now and have never had this issue, so I'm thinking should it have come with a 10w charger in the first place and given I've been using a 5w charger as supplied to me with the product could it be that over time is has caused a problem with it now not charging?

With a standard lap top and mobile phones, batteries only have a certain recharge lifespan so it is easy to replace them, but with these devices everything is encased so one can not simply change the battery over.

I really think that the only reason I can not Restore or Sync the device is because there is not enough energy coming from the iPad.

Other than going to an Apple Store is there anything else that can be done to resolve?

well, an iPad needs to be at least 10% capacity to be recognized/restored through iTunes, so that's a no go.

I think, even though it's not your preference, going to a retailstore to have the device/charger evaluated is the best option at this point. If you choose to do so, please don't forget to schedule an appointment at the Genius bar.

Good luck 🙂
