Apr 24, 2013 4:31 AM in response to Matthew_Dowdby jesterwylde,if you're out of warranty, the repair is possible but only with a fee.
If you go to a retailstore, you'll need an appointment at the genius bar. But before you can be sure there's a repair needed, try this:
1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
2. If that doesn't solve the issue, backup the device and restore it as new.
In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
If you're not able to restore the device, you should use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Using that last article will erase everything on the device, so make sure you have a backup!
Good luck

Apr 24, 2013 4:53 AM in response to Matthew_Dowdby lllaass,Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If the Genius can't unstick it
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for t$199 if a 64 GB one and $99 for the others. They do not fix yours.
A third-party place like the following maybe less. Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
Try to fix it yourself if you are up to it

Mar 1, 2016 7:41 PM in response to lllaassby Rongwey,Replacing the power button/volume buttons flex cable requires soldering. The blasted thing is soldered
to the system board like the battery. Friggin genius I tell ya'! It makes replacing that flex cable (and the battery)
something of a major operation rather than simply removing one and plugging in another. Just adding this in to prevent
anyone else from digging that cable out before realizing it's soldered. Excellent posts btw.
