iphone 3GS Unlock - HELP pls

I did call AT&T for unlocking my iphone. But the problem is that I DO NOT have the receipt anymore. It's an out-of-contract iphone, it's been 2 years I have it. Can't it be unlocked without the original receipt? There has to be some way out?

You do not need the receipt.

AT&T will unlock an iPhone under the following circumstances:

  • The person requesting the unlock is:
    • A current AT&T customer, or
    • A former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account.
  • The iPhone was designed for use on the AT&T network.
  • All contract obligations, including any term commitment, associated with the device to be unlocked have been fully satisfied.
  • The iPhone has not been reported lost or stolen.

Mine is an out-of-contract phone. I bought the phone from AT&T, at full price, but I never had an accout at AT&T. Therefore, no former nor current customer.

When I called AT&T about not having my receipt, they said they'll make a direct request to Apple.

When I called back after NOT hearing from them after 5-7 business days, they said the information I was given above isn't true, that if I don't have my receipt, nothing can be done.

My phone's been more 2 years now. When I bought it no-one mentioned anything about keeping the receipt because I'll need it after TWO years!!

When you purchased from AT&T, did you pay by check or credit card? Either should be able to produce a record of the purchase.

If this iPhone is locked to AT&T, and you have had it for two years, and you have not had a contract with AT&T for service, does that mean you have not been using it all that time? If you have been using it on the AT&T network, there has to be a record of that usage to fall back on.

What does one do with a new no contract iPhone after paying full price?

None of the iPhone functions work with a new carrier locked iPhone until the iPhone is activated.

If the iPhone has been used with another carrier since the iPhone was purchased which means the iPhone was hacked to be unlocked, ATT has no record of the iPhone being on their network and there is no way to meet their unlock requirements for their legitimate customers and you must dig up the receipt.
