Launch AppleScript/Automator App on Ethernet Connection

I'm the Apple Admin for my department and half of our machines are MacBooks. We are connected to our central network via ActiveDirectory so upon boot, I have an Automator script connecting the Macs to several network drives, including our backup solution. No problem.

The problem comes when someone disconnects from the network when they take their machine away from the desk. When they come back and reconnect via ethernet (at this time, wireless connection to the shared drives is not an option), none of the network drives are restored. So they either have to manually run the Automator script to reconnect everything, or they just don't do it and they get errors when their backup runs.

Is there a way to be able to run an Automator app or AppleScript upon reconnection to ethernet?

Thanks in advance for any help.
