I recently purchaised iphone 5 factory unlocked Model A1428 (gsm). Is it going to work in Europe /Russia? Or is it better to get Model A1429 (also unlocked and also gsm), what's the difference?

It should work on any compatible GSM carrier. It will NOT work on LTE networks outside of North America. The warranty is also not valid outside of the country where it was originally sold (either the US or Canada).

The A1429 GSM is not sold in the US or Canada.

If you intend to use the phone primarily outside of the US or Canada, buy the A1429 GSM from an authorized source in your own country to avoid problems.

Well, at the apple store they showed me A1429 (working with both CDMA and GSM), which was also unlocked. As far as i understood A1428 doesn't work with CDMA. But it actually doesn't matter, cuz in Russia f.e. they only have GSM. I'm buying the iphone as a present, so of course if something goes wrong i can always bring it back to US and change it. Just wanted to make sure, they both will work on GSM. And that there's no particular difference if the person's going to use it outside US.

It will work in Canada, but not on LTE networks. The North American bands are different.

Note also that if you did not buy it directly from an Apple Store or from Apple online it is not unlocked legitimately, and you will likely have problems with it in the future, regardless of where you use it. Apple is the ONLY source of "factory unlocked" iPhones (although Apple does not use that term; Apple just calls them "Unlocked").
