Thinking of getting a iBook Clamshell but want to update it all

I was thinking of getting an iBook clamshell for my student years (sixth form and university) but I'd rather have it updated with word and stuff. I know I would have to buy all the software but I was just wondering if it's worth it, like if it would hold enough memory and whether it would be fast or not and how much would all the updating cost. I'm kind of oblivious to the whole laptop thing so if someone could explain it to me that would fabulous! I understand if it couldn't because it's quite an old model but they're just so cool and unique thoought I should try and ask people first, see what people say!

Please and thank you!

iBook clamshells have G3 CPUs and have a max memory of 544 or 576 depending on the model. The newest OS that can be installed is version 10.3.9. In my opinion, it would not be a very useful computer. Apple support status is listed as OBSOLETE which is beyond its VINTAGE status. Unless you just really want one to collect dust on a shelf, I would choose something a little newer.

Recently I had to upgrade a 17" iMac (late 2006) to 2 GB of RAM so I could upgrade the OS from 10.5 to 10.6 because Chrome and Firefox only support OS 10.6 and above now.

You've seen Reese Witherspoon in "Legally Blonde?"

That was back in 2000 😎

The last iBook Clamshell Edition 366Mhz and 466Mhz with firewire port can run OSX 10.4 Tiger.

Microsoft Office 2004 runs OK if you upgrade the HD (up to 128GB, very complicated operation) and RAM (576MB).

You will need a wireless USB Stick which is compatible to OSX 10.4 and newer security standards to connect to wireless network on campus.

A notebook for minmalists who want to avoid distraction (surfing the internet for hours, gaming, youtube, Facebook - too slow and outdated hardware) Only recommended if all you need is a text editor and to check you mails frequently. A new battery will give you 5 hours battery life. This notebook has no fan, and if a new HD is installed, it will remain completely silent.
