I've just got a new ipod shuffle 4th gen and I connected it to my computer. It does not show up in itunes or in my computer. I have the latest version of itunes, and I've tried changing the USB port, restarting my computer, reinstalling itunes... I don't know what's wrong! I ran the diagnostic on itunes and it said that there wasn't an ipod connected! Help!

To confirm it not being recognized by iTunes, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. With the sidebar visible, does the iPod appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES?
If it does not, I would try shutting down and disconnecting all USB devices, including hub. Start up the computer with only standard keyboard and mouse connected (if normally used). Do this to Reset the shuffle

I use Windows 8. The ipod does not appear in the sidebar and i know it's not a problem with the usb port because I connected my mums shuffle and it works fine.
Is the other shuffle the same type? This document shows the four types
