My Mac Book Pro shut off & Restart on it's own. @ Times Very sluggish & slow. I'm thinking a Virus of some kind. Any Idea or Real Software to clean it up?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

The likelihood of it being a virus are minimal in my experience. You could try Intego's VirusBarrier, or BitDefender for Mac.

That said, there's likely usually something else going on. Have you checked how much free hard disk space you have? If you're down to 1GB or less, usable, that's going to muck things up considerably. That's one of the most common things. Also, having a significant amount of cache on your system. Clearing that out, at least once a year is a good thing.

You don't have a virus and you don't need any kind of "anti-virus" software. What exactly happems when it restarts by itself?

Surprised you just didn't say to take it to the store?

@iceberg - what are the symtoms of the restart? i.e. does it randomly just shut down (or restart) or does it happen after you do certain steps?
