I recently swapped my HTC Rhyme with a friend that had the iPhone 4 on the Verizon network. I am a Net10 customer and wouldlike to use this phone on their network but the phone has to be unlocked from Verizon. I contatced Verizon and they will not unlock the phone, no reason as to why, just wont do it. Is there anyway to unlock this phone?

Others who originated the Verizon service, and thus were "customers in good standing", had their iPhones unlocked. Not saying you are a dishonest person, but I suspect they want their contract/service to continue on the unlocked device.
Well that cant be the issue either cause the girl I traded with hooked the HTC Rhyme up on the account in place of the iPhone today! Thanks for the help anyway!
"In place of" may be the key ... the iPhone is not an active device in their network anymore. But Verizon would be the only source of the real reason.

No. The Verizon iPhone 4 is a CDMA phone. It is permanently locked to Verizon. It can not be used on any other network (except when roaming, under a Verizon plan, on another CDMA network).

Another poster reported that Verizon had unlocked their phone for use in Europe (cautioning that losing the original SIM would be a major pain the the rear).

Steve, the iPhone 5 is both GSM and CDMA...what Verizon will unlock is the GSM so you can use that part in another country. They do not unlock the CDMA part. The iPhone 4 Verizon is only CDMA.
Since the Verizon iPhone 4 doesn't even have a SIM slot, or a GSM radio, that's impossible. The 4S, on the other hand, does have a SIM slot and GSM radio and can be unlocked for use with non-US carriers. It can never be used with any US carrier other than Verizon. The SIM slot on the Verizon iPhone 5 is unlocked thanks to requirements placed on them by the FCC in exchange for winning a spectrum auction.

Also tells me that I can renew my contract with Verison on iPhone 5 and still use it overseas, as opposed to being locked to only ATT for it.

Call Verizon and ask them. They are the only ones who can authorize unlocking it. If it's not being used on Verizon right now, then the answer is undoubtedly no.
