apple store repair macbook pro

i have a 13inch late´2011 macbook pro with a defective screen and i want to know if apple reformats the hdd because of a dead pixel ?

should i backup the files ?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Yes, no matter what thy might say about the need to backup anytime you have your system in for repair (and out of your sight) it is a prudent thing to do.

and to add to that - once you've backed up your files/pictures/videos - take anything that is too personal out of that hard drive - for just in case purposes.
