My Mac only supports Windows 7? (MacBook Pro 15-inch Mid 2012)

I don't get this... I have the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro (not retina) available and I get a message from Boot Camp 5.0.2 saying that my Mac only supports Windows 7.

Isn't this an error? Why wouldn't I be able to get Windows 8 drivers for the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Is this an error/un-updated version of Boot Camp or will I be stuck with Windows 7 forever?

It says this on "Which Macs support Windows 8?":

Mac Book Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Mid 2010) and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

By just "MacBook Pro" I think they mean the 13-inch model right? And they are just being specific when they say that the only 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models that support Windows 8 are the ones of Mid 2010.

If that's right I guess this is just plain stupid, why would they support an older model and not the Mid 2012 models?

The support software I can download from the Apple Support center is the same I get from the Boot Camp application, however, Boot Camp warns be before downloading the support software that my Mac isn't compatible with any other version of Windows but Windows 7.

And I did tried several months ago to install Windows 8 with the Windows 7 support software and it was just a mess. Half of my drivers did not install.

It means your Macbook Pro will run on Windows 8.

Mac Book Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Mid 2010) and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

That means your 15 Inch Macbook Pro is newer so it should install with no issues.

The problem might be Windows not having drivers for your newer Macbook Pro. Not necessarlly means that it's your Macbook Pro's or Apple's fault - it would be a Windows issue.

Problem is that I already installed Windows 8 several months ago and tried installing the support software that boot camp provided me (that was on December of last year). Things didn't go well. Many drivers were uncompatible, bugs here and there, etc. However, at that time Boot Camp didn't said that my Mac was only compatible with Windows 7. It was an older version of Boot Camp that didn't had WIndows 8 support.

Will it work if I upgrade my current installation of WIndows 7 to Windows 8 instead of doing a clean install of Win 8?
