What formula is used to determined the second highest number value in a series of number values
If we have 5 number (10, 20, 30, 40, 50), what formula(s) would be used to answer 40?

As mentioned, LARGE will get you the nth largest number of your list. But you did not mention what to do if the numbers are not unique; if you have two or more numbers that are the same.
For example, what do you consider to be the second highest number in 50,50,30,20,10 ? LARGE will say it is 50.
