slow to sleep

saw a suggestion to run pmset -g log but don't understand the results. all of the entries say assertions, have a PID number "Created PreventUserIdleSystemSleep

the next entry says Released "PreventUserIdleSystemSleep"

What does this mean and why is it taking so long to sleep?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
