Pages will not open any documents on the MacBook Pro any more. It does not make any difference what the extension is, the error is "Import Error. The file format is invalid." What needs to be done to open documents a
MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
So what version of Pages, and what did you change just before it stopped working?

Pages '09, version 4.3 Nothing new was done, it just stopped working. Won't open any file extension, .doc or .docx

No, it will not.
For diagnostic purpose could you try out Pages in another account, Guest account or something?
That resulted in the same problem. A friend of mine said to delete Pages and reinstall it. That worked for now, I hope I do not have any more problems with it. Thank you for your help.
Good, that was the next step if using Pages in a nother account didn't work.

Pages 08 can't save in Pages 09 as Pages 09 didn't exist before Pages 08. You can't have an option for Pages 09 in Pages 08. Never. Pages 5 can Export to Pages 9 though.
Export from Pages '08 to Word .doc then all the later versions can open it.
You might lose some features and formatting however.
But it is the least worst option.

I had a the same problem after the last update. Rebooting fixed everything. All is normal again.
