my iPod Touch does not connect when plugged into anything, can it be fixed?

Out of the blue, my iPod Touch 4th gen (1 yr 11 mo old) was not recognized by any dock or cable. I did a 2 button reset, tried multiple docks, multiple cords and USB ports. Absolutely nothing happens when it is connected. I can't reset it via iTunes because it is not recognized.

Any ideas on the next step? Anyone had this happen before?

Did you do everything here:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

Including

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

or

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

New cable and different USB port?

The problem is more with the hardware of the ipod touch I believe. I tried multiple cables, ports and docks. There is no recognition by the iPod that any cable/dock has been plugged into it. I saw no need to reinstall iTunes, since the iPod doesn't recognize it has been plugged in.

I tried the same cables and docks with another iPod touch 4th gen, and that iPod worked fine in all of them,

Now the battery is dead with no way to recharge the iPod.

- See:

iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting

- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

- Try another charging source

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
