How do I install an externql DVD player to my N

Insert a disk into it. If it doesn't appear on the desktop or is otherwise acknowledged by the computer, check the settings in the General tab of the Finder's preferences and the CDs & DVDs pane of System Preferences.

Try this - connect your dvd writer to your macbook air's usb port. insert any dvd in your external dvd.
click anywhere in your desktop until you see the words finder beside your apple logo - see image below.
from there click on finder - prefernces - general and put at checkmark on CDs, DVDs, and iPods.
exit that one and you should see your DVD ROM drive in your right top side on your screen - if it works that is.
Your information helped me but I do not have Finder on my Computer. Next to the Apple logo is Safari. Where will I find Finder?
Move the cursor to the very bottom of the screen and click on the icon furthest to the left; it will be a big smiling face.

I am a dummy! Duh! I did find FINDER but I still cannot get the dvd progrAmmed, so guess I will have to take it back to Stqples and get someone to help me. Unfortunately I live in a little town thAt does not have an Apple Store. You really did help me and I THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I am trying to install a memorex DVD Writer to my MAC AIR. Nothing happens. what do I do next? The instructions are to open My Computer and double click. Where is that on the Apple? I am used to a PC and I am completely lost.
