I recently bought an emac and it has all the correct requirements needed to run Leopard 10.5 but every time I put the Leopard DVD in the optical drive and close it, it just reopens. The computer says that it can read DVD's so why does it keep spitting the install DVD out?

Thank you in advance!

Hmmm, does it read other DVDs at all?

  • BDAqua Level 10 Level 10 (114,825 points)

CDs & DVDs use different Lasers, voltages, & circuits, so it's easy for one part to work & not the other.

    Long shot, but...

Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

Oh, do you have another Mac witha working Optical drive that has Firewire also?

  • BDAqua Level 10 Level 10 (114,825 points)

Ah great, we can use the other Mac as a Big Firewire Optical drive...

If you have another Mac with Firewire & a FW cable, put the Install Disc in the other Mac,  boot the Other Mac into Target mode...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661

Boot the eMac with the Option key held down, see if the Install Disc in the other Mac shows up as a boot choice.
