Safari deletes folders

Safari deletes folders

I moved two folders from my bookmarks bar to the bookmarks sidebar, and Safari has deleted them.

CTR+Z doesn't work. Nothing happens.
Same with trying using the menu undo.
Nothing in trash (to be expected, but...).
They're not hidden in any other folder.

As I moved the folders, I got the blue line in the sidebar showing where they ought to be placed. Well, that didn't work, as they vanished.

These folders contained hours of research tabs. I'd rather not have to do it all again manually using history.

Any solutions?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

I've no solutions beyond restoring from a backup, folders drag & drop as expected here.

If no backup -copy your Home/Library/Safari & Home/Library//Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari folders before anything else - it's rather unlikely, but you might look within bookmarks in those to see if the data remains somewhere.

Thanks for your suggestion.

As I didn't expect this to ahppen during regular use of Safari, I didn't backup before dragging the folders into the sidebar. Looks like I'll have to do this in future, although that really slows down my workflow. This really shouldn't be a problem.

Agreed

to speed access slightly for manual backups, you can drag bookmarks.plist to Safari bookmarks bar; clicking will open Finder with it selected.
