SLEEP DELAY

Couple of days ago, my MacBook stopped sleeping the way it normally has. Now there is a long delay between when I click sleep and when the screen actually goes black. I recently downloaded Direct TV and that's about when it the delays started. Is there a place to look to see what is happening when it goes into sleep mode? Maybe there is some extra step or something that wasn't there before?
