Now I want to get some pictures back from 2012 , can I restore it or will it REPLACE my current iphoto library which is 2013 ??? I don't want to lose my 2013 pictures...how do I avoid this ?

Can you confirm that you are backing up only in Time Machine, and then deleting the original item?

If so, then you will eventually lose your Library. Time Machine is not an archival backup. It will eventually delete backups of things you have deleted from your hard drive.

If you want to do what you are doing, just copy the Library to an external drive (or two).
