Unable to highlight text or move windows

I have submitted this issue before and I received some very good isolation/resolution steps, but my problem still exists. I am unable to highlight text to delete, copy/paste. I am also unable to enlarge or move windows on my desktop.

STEPS TAKEN

1) Luanch Disk Utility

2) verify/Repair Hard Drive

3)Verify/Repair Permissions

4)**Safe Boot and was still unable to highlight or move windows

Install and Launch Applejack

5) applejack auto restart that performed all applejack tasks, detect and repair issues found

6) **Safe Boot computer and still was unable to highlight or move windows

Launched Tech Tool Pro (detected no issues)

Unplug all peripherals (USB and Firewire)

7)Reboot computer. Still unable to highlight or move/enlarge windows

CAN ANYONE HELP????

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.

Then move these files to the Desktop for now...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist

Reboot & test.

B,

Pleasant surprise! Ran into a problem. I performed the Safe Boot and did the Disk Utility Repair Permissions, I started the second step as you recommended. But, when I selected the files and tried to move them to the desktop, the files did not relocate to the desktop.

FYI,

I need to add a step that I performed in trying to isolate my trouble, as recommended by another Discussion Participant. He recommended that I create another Account ID to see if there was any change, which there was not,

That would indicate a Sytem problem, might be fixed by reapplying the 10.4.11 combo...

The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...

Repair Permissions afterwords, reboot.

In Finder, can you do a Get Info on your Home folder & others within, to see if they're Locked or what rights you have?

Performed update for PPC Mac OS X 10.4.11. Still no change in highlighting or window movement. Safe Boot and Repaired Permissions. All Files, when highlighted had a More button. Checked above listed Files. All were similar to my Home Folder... none of boxes were checked next to Locked. All Ownership & Permissions were set to READ & WRITE

Thanks, I know my memory is woefully low. Would increasing the memory also improve the audio to visual effects. I have difficulty watching You-Tube topics and others because the audio does not match up with the video or is that some other problem that a new Mac (with a new updated processor) would cure?

Yes. The old Tiger OS, and the hardware you are running, cannot cope with the demands of the latest web browsers or on-line video streams.

I am hoping this works and you can take a look at what has transpired. Here is the URL for this issue https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4997520?answerId=21917113022#21917113022. I wanted to add this additional troubleshooting comment to the reply I sent this Morning. After I disconnected all peripherals and retested my issues, I thought about and uninstalled a USB 2.0 PCI Adapter Card that was in a PCI slot of the computer. I still was unable to move windows on my desktop, but I was able to highlight a sentence. But I was only able to do it once. You had asked if I could drag the files to the desktop and as before. I was unable to drag any f the files to the desktop. Re: your last correspondence;I did add a new account and established that my issue was not Account specific. The issues still were present for both Accounts

Performed the Archive and Install procedure, exactly following the http://support.com//kb/HT1710 guidelines. The procedure was successful and completed. But the problem still persists. All peripherals are disconnected. Could the problem be in an application?

I have the following Applications:

Safari (one other error discovered; I underlined Apple and now I am unable to disunable the underline feature)

iChat

Address Book

iTunes

iPhotoiMovie HD

iDVD

Quicktime Player

System Preferences

NonAPPLE

Canino (Browser)

X11 (Required for Gimp, Photo Editing system)

Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCL, POWERPOINT)

Microsoft Messenger

HP Device Manager

HP Photosmart Studio

Gimp

No other Apps are launched except the App that I may be using(i.e, Browser or Mail)

I am writing this because you usually respond so quickly and I am thinking you did not receive my last correspondence. I had to agree with your thought that my computer had a system problem based on your troubleshooting recommendations. Your last recommendation was to perform archive and install procedure on my computer and that was performed this morning. After completion, I downloaded the combination OS X 104.11 update per the Software Update. But the problem, Unable to highlight text or move windows still exists. Could the problem be in a Application that is not launched? If you look at the correspondence I sent this morning (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4997520?answerId=21932914022#21932914022, it will show you the Applications loaded on my computer
