Facetime isn't connecting

When I open facetime it works. but then when I try to facetime someone ont there iphone or ipad, on my end it ust keeps ringing. on their end, they hit the connect but it won't connect, just keeps trying but no connection occurs.

can anyone help?

Im not using ipad i am using my macbook

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
