If you haven't already, import that music into iTUnes.

Then connect your iPad to your computer and click on its name on the sidebar (you may need to make the sidebar appear, control S works on a PC)

Navigate to the music tab and choose the tracks you want to sync, do a sync and your music should be on there

If your music is on CD's, simply put the CD's in your computer's drive and let iTunes rip the music. Or you can purchase music from iTunes. If you've gotten your music from other sources, make sure that music is on your computer. Open iTunes, go to library (you may need to use Control B to bring the menu bar back) and import, navigate to the folder your music is in and add it to the library.

I must be missing something here!

I have a shared library on my macbook (the library resides on a pc) and it shows all albums ok. I am trying to copy some albums onto my ipad. My ipad is connected to the macbook. When I try to drag an album in the shared library (in itunes) onto the ipad nothing happens. I have tried to drop the selected icon onto the ipad device or onto the Music item under the ipad but nothing happens. I have also tried to copy the album and paste it into the Music tab on the ipad but again nothing happens.

When I click on the ipad and then the Music tab, some of the albums in the shared library show up. If I could refresh and update this list, I would be able to select albums to sync with the ipad.

Can anyone help me or expalin what is going on?

Thanks

@BlueFlash.... maybe I can be CLEARER in WHAT I did above. I plugged in my ipad to my computer. I have windows computer. Then I clicked computer so it shows me ALL the programs and things that I have attached. (ie, like if you plug in a USB, whatever YOU would click on your computer to show you the USB AND the computer and the other parts. Then, I opened itunes. I had it set to show the albums (covers). Now, while the itunes app is open, you should STILL be able to see computer, devices, etc on the LEFT HAND SIDE OF SCREEN (takes up about 1/4) of total screen. Now, I made certain I could see my ipad listed in the things connected to computer, and THEN, I copied ALL my ALBUMS (LIKE you would do if you were copying and pasting things from a document INTO another document), after copying all, I moved my curser over ON TOP of the ipad - like it was a folder, and then clicked PASTE, and they ALL moved over like they do in a document. When I opened my ipad music app, ALL my songs were back in there. I'm not sure IF this will help, but I tried to explain better HOW I got all of my songs back. Dont try individual songs, just copy your entire library, and then paste into where you want it to go. IF it gives you the msg that some songs are already there, you can click the dont add these button and the others should drop in. Good Luck.

On your computer click on iTunes and then connect your computer and iPad with the USB/sync cable.
Click on the "iPad" symbol top RHS. The iPad "Summary" page will open up.
Click on "Music" up top and you will be shown a page where you can select to sync your entire music library, or selected playlists, albums etc. After selecting your choice, click on "Sync" bottom RHS and your music will transfer onto your iPad. Allow sufficient time for the syncronisation to complete.
Enjoy your music!

I have had no problems transferring albums from my macbook library to my ipad.

The problem I have is trying to transfer an album from my SHARED LIBRARY (which resides on my pc) to my ipad, when the ipad is plugged into the macbook.

It seems the only thing I can do is create a playlist on my pc of the album I want to transfer, then copy the playlist to my ipad via the macbook shared library. This get the music onto the ipad but there is no artwork associated with the music on the ipad. Also it makes what seems to be a simple task more complicated.
