New iOS Device iTunes App Store Verification Session Timeout on Wi-fi

Encountered the most frustrating iOS bug today. Solved it, in part, due to this community and in part out of sheer dumb-luck guess.

Had a new iOS device (multiple iOS device household). Tried to buy an app through the new device while the device was using my home wi-fi network. The network is up and working perfectly. No issues with home wi-fi or signal at all, and was using the wi-fi to google in Safari on the device suggestions for an app before attempting the purchase. Here is what happened:

launch app store

search app store for app name

tap price button for app

taken to app detail screen

tap price button for app

'BUY APP' button revealed

tap 'BUY APP' button

prompted for Apple ID password

entered Apple ID password

get 'Verification Required' explanation iOS message box

tap 'CONTINUE' button

get stuck in endless loop of prompt for Apple ID password to be entered

exit app store

launch app store

go through process again

eventually get to payment verification screen (3 prompts for Apple ID password later)

enter payment information

tap 'DONE' button

get 'SESSION HAS TIMED OUT' message

exit app store

retry again. repeat steps above. complete verification very quickly. tap 'DONE' button.

get 'SESSION HAS TIMED OUT' message

> net result: it was impossible either through infinite Apple ID password prompts endlessly looping or through 'SESSION TIMED OUT' on the payment verification page to actually authorize the new iOS device to make payments

SOLUTION:

(from Support Community, thank you)

exit app store

go to Settings

select iTunes & App Stores

tap the top box labeled: 'Apple ID:yourappleID'

Apple ID option box appears with several button choices

tap the button labeled 'Sign Out'

(not done yet)

(this was my hunch/dumb-luck that really solved my issue, because with the above steps and still connected to Wi-fi I still got stuck in 'SESSION TIMED OUT' ****):

in Settings select iTunes & App Stores

scroll to bottom of screen and ensure that the 'switch' button option is set to 'ON' for 'Use Cellular Data' option

return to Settings

select Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi 'switch' button option to 'OFF'

Ensure you are signed out of your Apple ID in iTunes & App Stores one more time

Now go into either iTunes or the App Store and buy something (don't get something free)

You will be prompted to enter in the Apple ID and the password twice, then you will be taken to the payment verification screen

Verify your payment information and select done

Voila - your session shouldn't time out and you should no longer be in Apple iOS store verification ****.

Apple - please get your act together and fix this sillyness. I mean really. Why would a wi-fi connection trip a session end immediately on verification page load? Goofiness.

By the way this problem did occur on an iPhone running the recent 6.1.3 update. As I am reading (searching iOS 6.1.3 wi-fi problems) there seems to be one heckuva big bassbottom bug in the iOS 6.1.3 code as far as wi-fi is concerned.

Apple must admit someone really fudged up on this iOS update and how this thing got out of Quality Control I'll never know. Tim should be ashamed and a few bodies should probably be dropped over this shameful release.
