Help repairing time machine backup

I am trying to repair a timemachine back up using disk utility and it is taking forever and displaying the message Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required. Please help. I am on Snow Leopard.

iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
