If I sync iTunes to iCloud on my IMac, anything from the iMac, iPhone or iPhone, should show up on all the other devices is this correct? Is it recommended to sync to iCloud or my computer (IMac) and what are the benefits of each?

Not everything is synced with iCloud e.g. if you have a lot of music from CDs, then you would have to sign up for iTunes Match to see every song on all your devices (http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/).

If you are using iTunes on your Mac to back up your device, then you would not have to do it via iCloud.
what are the advantages od backing it up to iCloud vs the Mac?

First and foremost it is the same. Just see the iCloud back up function as a additional opportunity to keep your devices separated or if both (your Phone and Mac) gets stolen you would still have your backup in the cloud.
Thanks, that helps. So when backing up my iPad2 on iTunes - there is a choice to back up on my Mac or iCloud. For everything to be seen on all devices, I need to back up to iCloud, correct? That way changes to iPhot, iTunes, contacts, etc will show on all devices - is that correct?
Perhaps none of this matters. As long as iCloud is on all devices, it probably doesn't matter where iTunes is backed up to - or is this incorrect? Thanks and this should end all my questions!
You can use iTunes to backup your device, but still add your iCloud account (Settings > iCloud) to keep mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, and app data in sync.
