Xerox Phaser 7400DN - Can't connect to printer in OS X 10.8

I've been trying for ages to get my new MacBook Pro to print to my Xerox Phaser 7400DN via Ethernet, but it continues to hang up.

I've installed (and re-installed) the latest drivers many times.

The weirdest thing is that the Mac recognizes the printer—it's listed in my System Prefs and available as an option from any application I attempt to print from—but as soon as I choose print, the Printer Dialogue window stays stuck on "Connecting to Printer" for several minutes, and then switches to read "The Printer is Not Responding". The other oddity is the printer listing in my System Prefs switches to an amber icon (from a green icon) as soon as I try to print a document. Once I cancel the job, it becomes green again.

I'm completely stumped. Xerox tells me it's an Apple thing, and Apple tells me it's a Xerox thing.

Is anyone else having issues printing to Xerox on Mountain Lion?

And more improtantly, have you been able to correct them?
