2007 MacBook Pro 2.2GHz A1226 Kernel Panic after 10.8.3 install

Question

Started getting KP&#x27;s after installing 10.8 for a client. Here&#x27;s my steps thus far with the KP log at the bottom of my post.2007 non-uni MBPro 2.2 GHz A1226CCC clone of old user hdd to .sparsebundle image (about 120GB) was running OS X 10.6.5Repartition, erase brand new 500GB 2.5" SATA HDD CCC &gt; Window &gt; Disk Center &gt; installed Recovery HD 10.8 on the 500GB driveCCC cloned my 10.8.2 + Apps image (used on dozens of client Macs without issue) to the 500GB drivebooted into MBPro HD and ran Migration Assistant to import old user account from the CCC backup I made earlierran all Apple updates and ran Repair Permissions, rebootedon reboot... gray screen with text that said:  "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up."not sure what was wrong, I booted into Recover 10.8 &gt; ran DU repair disk and repair permissionsstill getting kernel panic on reboot... but after a few tries it would boot into the user account. Once in user account everything runs fine. Only getting KP when I start up the MacBook Pro. weird.Thinking it was bad OSX install from my CCC image... I went ahead and reinstalled from Recovery HD  fresh 10.8.2, then ran updates, etc.still getting kernel panic.  Was fine on 10.6.5. Only noticed it when upgraded to 10.8.xdid SMC and PRAM resets, still issuesbooted into Safe Mode... no errors that I can see, but then again it won&#x27;t KP when I&#x27;m running anything.Have not yet re-seated or replaced ram (3rd party 2 x 2GB 667mhz) but plan to do that tonight.Anything else you guys can think of? Well, the MacBook Pro 3,1 was known for the faulty GPU,  it is possible that your system is trapping the GPU errors and generating a kernel panic.  Have you tried to run an Apple Hardware Test on your system?  That might help you to determine if the hardware is faulty or not.

@GeekBoy.from.Illinois – Thank you. I have not run the AHT yet, but plan to take it to my friend/colleague who is an ACMT ACSP etc. with all the diagnostic tools. In the meantime, I went ahead and replaced the 4GB of RAM with 2GB (1x1GB) PC5300 667mhz, to see how it ran. No kernel panics yet on several boot, shutdown, boot, shutdown, boot, tries. 😉 But I&#x27;d be a bit surprise if that&#x27;s all it was. I haven&#x27;t run it very hard so the CPU and GPU temps are staying on the lower end... when it was the worst I was getting 160-180ºF, but now it&#x27;s about 115-130º. Perhaps the GPU was simply overheating? I don&#x27;t know... Someone on another forum post mentioned removing the heatsink, scraping off old thermal paste and applying a fresh tp layer to the GPU &amp; CPU, before replacing the heatsink.  Would you recommend this? I just did a SMC and PRAM reset and replaced the original 4GB (2x2) back in the MBP. Still no kernel panics. Perhaps wishful thinking that is "OK" now? 🙂 LOL.
