transferring data from pc to mac?

I want to get my mom a Macbook Pro for Mother's Day. She has a Dell right now that she's had for about 5 years now I think and to put it lightly it's a POS. I just want to be sure all of her stuff will transfer before I order it though. She has Quicken and all of my parents' financial info on her Dell and it would obviously suck if she had to manually put it all back in. I'm also pretty sure she has a few viruses on her Dell but those shouldn't affect anything on her Mac would it? I know her photos and music will be fine.

I just got my first Mac for Christmas and I'm officially converted. I will never in my life buy another non-Apple computer EVER. With that said though I'm definitely not an expert so thanks in advance for your help! 🙂

MacBook Pro, iOS 6.0.2

You can use Windows Migration Assistant on your PC (you have to download it from Apple) and Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant in the Mac to transfer data > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796

However, you mentioned that she could have viruses. Even if they doesn't affect OS X, you should delete them before transferring your files with Migration Assistant. I recommend you to use Microsoft Security Essentials on the PC to run a scan and delete all the virus she could have
