Don't keep the memory issue keep you from getting a Mac Book. Use the standard memory first if you don't have more budget now to upgrade the memory, but later on when you have extra money and you upgrade that, you will be amaze how it will perform better.

Try to upgrade in pair, like 1 Gb x 2 module or 512 mb x 2 Module, but if I were you, I will jump directly to 1 Gb x 2 module so I don't have 2 of 256 mb and 2 of 512 wasted if upgraded one step at a time.

Given you will be using applications that require Rosetta it is advisable to upgrade to 1GB.

In my opinion... no.

Yes you will be able to run everything you need to run and accomplish your tasks. You don't NEED to upgrade your RAM.

That said, as the other posters have alluded to, 1GB would be advisable and in my opinion, I would upgrade to 2GB. RAM is inexpensive and (esp. with intergrated graphics running off this RAM) the best way to enhance performance.

So, for a little over $200 if you do it yourself which, thanks to apple is ridiculously easy, you can bump up performance in a way that is noticable and not just a better spec on paper!
