On Mission Control, sometimes I see icons instead of windows - as shown in the screenshot.
MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
You can control click on the Mission Control icon in the dock, and select "Show Application Windows".
What I have observed is that if I activate Mission Control via swiping or F3, 3 out of 10 times, it would show me something like the screenshot. Other times, it shows windows - as is expected.
