Importing movies from camera to iPhoto

Hi, grateful for any advice, three years ago iPhoto would automatically import movie clips from my compact camera as well as the stills - a Canon at that time. Now, Sony Cyber-shot, upgraded OS (10.8.3), it has imported all the photos via the SD card, no problem, but not the movies. The information on the Sony tells me that the movies are stored in AVC HD format. Any ideas on what could be happening?

What version of iPhoto do you have?

You may want to set your camera to shoot something other than AVCHD

PS you need to update yoru profile - it sill lists 10.7.5

Thanks Larry, I have iPhoto 11, I will try altering the camera setting as you suggest, but unfortunately that does not solve my problem of accessing my current videos!

The link to the other article was v helpful, thanks. While the article was a bit confusing for me, alongside that discussion were links to other help topics - this contained a link to instructions to deal with my exact issue. Unfortunately it just stated what I had expected to happen - that iPhoto would automatically import AVCHD videos along with photos, unless asked not to do so!

I will sort out my profile, thanks for letting me know.
