Q: Can't kill finder with killall Finder

Hi

i have a strange behavior with OS X. When I try to kill/restart my Finder with the Terminal Command "killall Finder" I get no error Message but the Finder will not restart and does not quit. Nothing happened.

With another User on this Mac everything work as aspected and this user can kill/restart the Finder.

I repaired the permissions etc..

any idea??

Try using the Safe Mode.

Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Are you an Admin user? If not, that's why. Otherwise, you have a corrupted preference or cache file in your account.

I'm Admin yes... hmmm I will first try to delete all user and system cache files... after that I will delete the Finder plist file...

I deleted the System and the User Cache and also the Finder pref .plist but still the same problem..

Did you remove /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.finder/?

Yes all Chache files and after that I locked out and back in and still the same problem

Create a new user account for yourself. Log into the new account. Is all well?

Something in your old account is causing the problem. Do you have any add-ons installed? Try looking in the console log for any indication of what may be preventing the Finder from quitting using the Console application in your Utilities folder.

Thank you Eric,

in Safe Mode everthing worked fine. I rebooted the system after Safe Mode and now it also worked with all the Startup items again.
